NYC premier Gotham Comedy Club donates all proceeds to organization.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 28, 2014

Breakthrough, a global human rights organization working to make violence and discrimination against women unacceptable, drew a sold-out crowd to Gotham Comedy Club Tuesday night for Dudes Against Violence Against Women: Because DUH. The event was hosted by nationally known comedian Dean Obeidallah (The Muslims Are Coming!), who originated the idea to bring male comics together for the cause.

The event was designed to celebrate and inspire men leading culture change to challenge violence against women. The powerhouse line-up included comics from Saturday Night Live, HBO, Comedy Central, and more, such as: Todd Barry, Pete Dominick, Ted Alexandro, Dean Edwards, Rob Paravonian and Wali Collins.

Photos of the event are now available for publication.

I just feel like weve got to do something and I thought this would be a way of using my abilities to try to bring attention to an issue that really should be talked about in a way that doesnt make men defensive, said Obeidallah.

"When you get somebody like Dean saying 'Im getting my bros together to say were doing something about violence against women, because its a mens problem,' he starts a chain reaction," said Breakthrough president and CEO Mallika Dutt. "When you get pop culture creators saying it's time to stop the violence, real culture change becomes possible. That's what we sparked Tuesday night."

We started by making sure men know about what's going on and how much of an epidemic violence against women is, said Dominick. We all need to do something about it. I do as much as I can to create a better, safer future not only for my daughters but also for women and girls all over the world."
