A Baby Boy Is Born At A North Fork Gas Station

Posted:
NORTH FORK, Calif. (KMPH) -

A woman on her way to a doctor's appointment suddenly goes into labor and ends up giving birth in a North Fork gas station parking lot.

The Madera County Sheriff's Department says the woman and her husband were on their way to drop off their two kids with a relative. Deputies say that's when the woman went into labor and delivered a baby boy.

A woman who was at the 'Bass Fork Mini Mart' says she knew right away what was happening and started helping.

"I see a woman with her legs up on the dash board of her car and I'm like she's having a baby, I know that position," says Hannah Balthazar, who helped deliver the baby, "I just ran over and sure enough dad had just pulled him out. He was kind of in shock, so I just said set him on her stomach, keep him warm and I pulled off my hair tie and said to tie the cord."

Hannah Balthazar and the baby's dad got some help when Detective Kristine Hawk and Lieutenant Tyson Pogue from the Madera County Sheriff's Department left their Fresno Fire patrols and went to help.

The mom and baby were taken to a hospital in Madera to be checked out and both of them are fine.
