Suit filed in fatal patrol car-cyclist collision

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The family of a prominent entertainment attorney who was struck and killed by a deputy's patrol car while riding his bicycle has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The Los Angeles Times says (http://lat.ms/1ywkxfY) the suit filed Wednesday claims the actions of the deputy and, by extension, the department, subjected Milton Everett Olin Jr. to "unreasonable and substantial risk of injury or harm."

Olin was traveling in a bicycle lane in Calabasas when he was struck last December.

The family argues that Deputy Andrew Wood operated his vehicle negligently and carelessly.

The 65-year-old Olin practiced Internet, intellectual property and entertainment law and was former chief operating officer of the online file-sharing service Napster.

The Sheriff's Department declined to comment on the pending litigation.
