Taggers Target Fresno Church; Help Needed to Clean Up

FRESNO, CA -

For the second time in a week, a Fresno church has been vandalized.

This time, they tagged

Mount Olive Church, at Clinton and Thorne—twice in a span of 24 hours.

They marked up the main building, the parking lot, and other walls.

"I was just used to when we grew up there's certain things we did for the elderly and the church,” says Dayatra Lee, daughter of the church’s pastor. “We just had a certain amount of respect."

Lee found the tagging Saturday afternoon, then even more on Sunday.

This isn’t the first time this church has been hit.

Vandals once broke a cross in the church's courtyard.

On another case, they stole copper wire.

On another instance, someone carved hateful messages into the church's doors.

Parishioner Gwen Burks says Mount Olive’s Pastor used part of his Sunday message to help her and others put the incident into perspective.

“At first, it's disturbing,” Burks says.

“But then, the pastor just preached about how we were targeted. We made Satan angry."

Angry, by helping the community.

The church organizes food distributions, counseling sessions, and a pre-school for kids.

"It's hurtful and you get disappointed," said Lee.

Burks says, "You wonder if they want this done to their home or their church, or their mom's church."

The church is now in need of money and manpower to clean up this latest work of vandals.

If you'd like to help, you can call the church at (559) 270-2740.
