UPDATE: Fresno Furniture Store Fire Was Arson

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE:

Fire investigators say the fire at an abandoned furniture store on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno was arson.

Police have video showing a dark compact sedan drive up and the occupants spray graffiti on the building before they toss incendiary devices at it.

The tattoo parlor next to the abandoned building was also a total loss, with damage estimated at $400,000.

The two people detained were questioned and released and are not considered suspects.

It's unknown at this time if this arson is connected with other fires set around the Fresno area in recent weeks.

Firefighters have two people detained after fire burned through a Central Fresno business Tuesday morning.

Aaron Abeytia, with our partners at News Talk 580 KMJ, reported live from the scene with the latest.

The fire was reported around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at Blackstone and Shields.

The 2-alarm fire took more than a half million gallons of water to control and knocked out power in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing someone run from the building as firefighters were approaching but that information has not been confirmed.

The building was scheduled to be leveled after a previous fire.

The cause of this latest fire is still under investigation but it appears to be arson.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
