BOSTON, June 30, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In front of a crowd of her colleagues and friends, Thalia Tringo was honored at the Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® (GBAR) Annual Awards Brunch on June 20 at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy with the 2014 GBAR Good Neighbor Award. Thalia also received a $2,500 grant for an organization close to his heart, Community Cooks of Somerville. Tringo is the broker-owner for Thalia Tringo & Associates in Somerville.

The Good Neighbor Award is modeled closely after that given by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and recognizes real estate professionals for their community activism.  Recipients of the award have made an extraordinary commitment to improving the quality of life in their communities through volunteer work.

Community Cooks is a network of volunteers that provide home-cooked meals to hungry and vulnerable neighbors in the Greater Boston community. Tringo has been a loyal volunteer through financial contributions, as a founder of the Executive Chefs Circle, and by hosting a community Lunar New Year event that raises money and awareness of the growing hunger and food problems in the area. Thalia has helped double the size of Community Cooks, and has actually led two of her agents to become volunteer cooks who both contribute to the organization. In addition to Community Cooks, Thalia also serves on the Board for the Somerville Homeless Coalition, and has instituted a program at her agency where agents donate $250 from each real estate transaction to a local non-profit in honor of their clients. Thalia is a true example of a "good neighbor" and does whatever she can to help those around her.

"I'm humbled and honored to receive the Good Neighbor Award.  In my office, part of our corporate mission is to be good and active citizens in the communities in which we work.  We are proud to support many local non-profits, through both our donations and volunteer work, in achieving their charitable goals. The staffs of those charities are the real heroes - we're just trying to do our part to help. Investing in local non-profits improves quality of life in our communities, making them better places to live and work," stated Tringo.

The Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® is a private trade association with more than 6,600 REALTOR® members who specialize in residential real estate in Eastern Massachusetts.  GBAR is the largest of five divisions of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB), and a local chapter of the Massachusetts and National Associations of REALTORS® (NAR).  REALTOR® is a federally-registered trademark reserved exclusively for members of NAR.
