Neighbor Follows Thieves To Hotel And Calls 911

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

An alert neighbor in Fresno got involved when she spotted something odd in her neighborhood.

She noticed a strange car in her neighbor’s driveway and watched as three people took stuff from inside the home.

She followed their car to a North Fresno hotel, while calling 911.

When Fresno County sheriff's deputies got to the hotel, they knocked on the door of one of the rooms and found evidence, including personal files, linking the thieves to a recent burglary in Northwest Fresno.

If you feel like a sitting duck in your neighborhood, there is something you can do about it; join a Neighborhood Watch.

In Fresno County, if you're part of the program, you can have crime prevention personnel do free security inspections at your homes.

You're also encouraged to write your driver's license numbers on your property, in case it's stolen.

You can find out more about getting involved with a Neighborhood Watch in Fresno County, by contacting the sheriff's office at 559–896–2080.

In Tulare County, you can get involved with the sheriff's department's "Tip Now" program.

It allows you to anonymously text, email or call the department if you see something suspicious.

You can also print out a free poster to put up around your neighborhood.

For more information on how to do that, just go to the department's website at TulareCounty.ca.gov/sheriff.

In the City of Merced, if you're interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch, just contact the Merced Community Action Network at 209–385–8807.

In Madera County, there are eight Neighborhood Watch programs operating in the county right now. If you'd like more information about creating your own group, contact the sheriff's department at 559–675–7770.
