Election 2014: Fresno Has A New District Attorney

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) - Election Day is over and the votes are in. Come January, Fresno County will have a new District Attorney.

With all precincts reporting, Lisa Sondergaard Smittcamp received more than 58% of the vote Incumbent Elizabeth Egan received only 41%.

Through Twitter, Smittcamp declared victory and thanked voters saying there is plenty of work to be done and that as DA she will ensure that justice is served and safety upheld.

In Fresno County District 1, it is still a very close race.

Kerman Dairyman Brian Pacheco leads the polls with just over 37% of the vote and current Fresno City Councilman Blong Xiong is in second with nearly 36%.

In the Fresno County race for Supervisor District 4, Riverdale farmer Buddy Mendes has over 49% while Daniel Parra, Fowler's mayor pro–tem, has over 21%.

For Fresno's County Superior Court Judge number 15, Chief Deputy DA Lisa M. Gamoian has over 34% of the vote while lawyer & professor Rachel Hill has just under 29%.

In the race for Fresno City Council District 1, another close race, PR and marketing firm owner Cary Catalano has over 35% of the vote, but law professor Esmeralda Soria is not far behind at nearly 33%.

Fresno’s District 3 race has current Councilman Oliver Baines leading with over 65% to Barbara Ann Hunt’s 21%.

In District 7, current City Councilman Clint Olivier is in the lead with nearly 55% to teacher and community advocate, Mike Wells with 29%.
