Caught on Camera: Man Beaten During Gold Necklace Robbery

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Fresno man is recovering from head injuries after police say a thief ripped a gold chain off his neck. There have been several similar robberies around Southeast Fresno, but officers say this is the first one that has sent someone to the hospital.

The gold chain robbery at the Southeast Fresno store was caught on camera. The video shows the thief walking into the store and looking around. At one point store employees say the bad guy went up the counter and started talking with the clerk.

After a few minutes surveillance cameras show the thief rip the clerk's gold chain off his neck. The clerk fought back by grabbing the crook's shirt. Then the thief punches the man behind the counter several times. His brother says he has a broken nose, stitches in his head, and a lot bruises.

Investigators say the guy caught on camera committed a similar crime a few blocks away. Officers say the thief walked into a Laundromat and stole a gold chain from a lady. Security guards say the 70 year-old lady was pushed to the ground but she wasn't hurt.

If you have any information about the robberies please call Crime Stoppers at 559–498–STOP (7867). You can receive a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
