UPDATE: Huge Fire In Fresno Causes Millions In Damage

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) - There was $2.5 million-dollars in damage for items inside storage units destroyed by a fire. The blaze happened at 'Derrel's Mini Storage' in East Fresno on Friday. Firefighters still don't the cause of the fire.

Almost all the storage units inside two warehouses burned down. However, the unit rented by Genevieve Chavoya was not damaged by the flames.

Chavoya says she was out of town on Friday when the fire started. Her son told her she might have lost everything in storage. When Chavoya arrived back in Fresno she says the first thing she did was check on her storage unit.

"It was depressing to see a lot of people had lost their items," says Chavoya, "They were going through the rubble trying to find items that could be salvaged and there was really nothing."

When Chavoya got to her unit, she was in for a big surprise. Her furniture, clothes, a car and two trailers were still there.

"I was just blessed I guess," says Chavoya, "I was really lucky that nothing got damaged and nothing smelled like smoke."

The next step for Chavoya is she has to find a new storage facility. She says 'Derrel's Mini Storage' offered her a different unit, but she says it's too small.
