MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

Under the tune of great American hits, Valley locals sipped wine and honored men of courage, men like Marshall Soria.

Soria is a 93-year-old World War II veteran.

He moved to the U.S. from Mexico when he was just two years old.

He says it was for a new start, a chance for a new opportunity.

"You have to fight for your country to appreciate things," said Soria.

He remembers stories of fighting in the front lines and in the "Battle of the Bulge."

"We had to take care of each other, especially in the snow," said Soria.

Come April 28th, Soria will join more than 70 Valley veterans for the annual "Honor Flight."

After nearly 70 years, it's a chance for Soria to re-connect with his old brothers, and pay tribute to those who have fallen.

"He wouldn't talk about his service when I was going up. Now in his later years, he is actually expanding to what and when…I know it means a lot to him," said Marshall Soria Junior.

Three generations of veterans came out to support the cause.

Vincent Mel, fought in Iraq, he is now a student at Fresno State.

To help out, he and his fraternity brothers raised nearly $700 for the trip.

"There are only a limited number of world war II veterans. They are not going to be around forever. We want to get them out there; we want to get them to D.C. to visit the memorial. I think it's just a really cool experience for them," said Mel.

The APCal Vineyards in Madera served as the perfect setting for a day of music, food, wine and a good cause.

The money raised will go toward giving men like Soria the privilege he says he has waited a lifetime for.

"A privilege to go, with a group of men I fought with ... because it was hard," said Soria.
