Canceled Wedding? Fresno Police Break Up Fight

Posted:
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

A bride's big day might be ruined because of a power struggle at Fresno County Sportsmen's Club.

A fight over who should run the club has been going on for months and it boiled over Thursday.

At Fresno County Sportsmen's Club there were police all over the parking lot after an argument led to everyone getting kicked out of the club.

Police and heated arguments are not what Jennifer Savory thought she would see when she showed up at the Sportsmen Club to finish up plans for her May 3rd wedding.

"It's the only wedding I'm going to have my and I've been dreaming about it my whole life," says Jennifer Savory who is having her wedding at Fresno County Sportsmen's Club.

The argument was over who is in charge of the club. President Douglas Bowman has run it for 3 years.

"I put a lot of time and a lot of effort into this club," says Club President Douglas Bowman.

Bowman says he called the police after getting upset about the locks on the building being changed. The locks were changed by the club's new president and board of directors that were voted in by members.

"They refuse to listen to the members, so as a result of that there was a grass roots movement by the members to oust the current board of directors, because they want their club back," says Club President Steve Starcher.

Both Bowman and Starcher insist that they are the club's president and have the legal documents to back up their claims.

However, until the fight over who's in charge is resolved, Savory says she's worried she won't be able to have her wedding here

"I don't know what I'm going to do," adds Savory, "I don't know where I'm going to have it and I have no idea what we're going to do."

Both presidents of the club tell me they will do everything they can to make sure Savory has her wedding at the club. The fight over who is in charge is most likely going to end up in court.
