Fresno Woman Celebrates 100th Birthday With Massive Party

Posted: Updated:

Antonia Tostado was the toast of a north Fresno restaurant Saturday night.

After all, it's not everyday someone celebrates a birthday.

Let alone, their 100th.

"We are a big family. And I love all of them," says Tostado.

Tostado was born on March 14, 1914 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

She came with her mother to California three years later.

They settled in Selma, where she would meet, then marry, the boy across the street.

They wound up having six children, 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

"What keeps me going is my children, my grand children," she says—along with leaving vices, for others.

"I never drinked, I never smoked," she says.

"You don't think about it, you take it for granted she's gonna be there," says daughter Elisa Tostado. "I have a feeling she's gonna live a few more years. She's in better shape than I am!"

While Tostado is flooded with well-wishes, she admits: "I'm getting tired."

Even so, her family is quick to tell her she's still with them for a reason.

"I tell her, ‘Obviously, God is not ready for you. If he was, you would be with him. One of two things, either you've made him angry he doesn't want to see you yet. Or you've made him so happy, he's giving you more time to see your family,'" says Elisa Tostado.

The elder Tostado says one of the biggest changes she's seen in 100 years is the way people get along with one another.

"In our times, our parents did not let us go that easy. They teach us respect, especially the mother and the father-- and to get along with brothers and sisters," she says.
