Getting Closer: Reedley Police Dog Fundraiser Nears Goal

Posted:
REEDLEY, Calif. (KMPH) -

Reedley Police are close to putting another police dog on the streets.  The three week old police dog fundraiser is not far from hitting the 12–thousand dollar goal.

So far close to 500 K-9 hero stuffed dogs have been sold at various Reedley outlets.  They are also on their second order of K-9 shirts.

KMPH Fox 26 and Reedley Police created a partnership three weeks ago to raise money to put a new police dog on the street.  Chief Joe Garza says the department has already been in contact with their vendor and soon he will be looking at dogs.  Garza says the goal is to get Officer Bryce Alcorn and his new dog in a five week training course in Northern California by early June.

Six different fundraiser's to benefit the police dog campaign have already been scheduled between late March and early May.  Chief Garza says that could fund another dog.  "We've always had a goal of having a third dog.  I'd love to get back to where we were back when I was handling dogs with five dogs out on the street.  But one step at a time.

Here is the information on the fundraiser's. The Sean Walsh K-9 Memorial Foundation is offering lunch or dinner meals at Tahoe Joe's on Thursday March 27th.  Tickets are $20.

On March 28th there will be a K-9 Zumbathon at Xcelerate Gym in Reedley.  The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and the cost is $6 to participate.

The Reedley Rotary Auction on March 29th will give some of its profits to help buy a police dog.  Doors open at 5:30.  Tickets are available at police headquarters.

On April 1st thru the 18th Jack In The Box will be asking patrons in ten different Valley cities to donate a dollar to buy a police dog.  A five dollar donation will get you a milkshake.

A Poker Tournament at the new 500 Club in Fresno April 19th also benefits the Reedley Police Dog Fund.  The buy in is $60 and begins at 3:00 p.m.

Finally the Knights Cavalry will hold a motorcycle scavenger hunt run on Saturday May 10th.  It begins at Blackstone and Barstow.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run at 9:00 a.m. Single riders are $25 while couples are $35.
