Fake, Pirated DVD's & CD's, Tulare Man Charged

Thursday afternoon, a Tulare man stood before a federal judge and is now facing four counts of selling pirated DVD movies and music CD's.

Weeks ago, KMPH Fox 26 News cameras were there when Department of Homeland Security agents arrested 53-year-old Hernan Cortes and another man from Oakland.

Agents working with those in the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America raided a Fresno County warehouse.

Agents say they seized more than 70,000 pirated CD's and DVD movies, many of them Blu-ray quality.

Agents say those in undercover had been working the investigation for more than year.

If convicted, Cortes faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
