Stuck In A Fresno Tree: It's Not A Cat, It's A Man

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

You've heard about cats getting stuck in trees, but what about a person. It happened to a Fresno man who got stuck in a tree that's thirty feet high and had to be rescued by firefighters.

"I was just curious and dumb," says Nathan Alfaro who was trapped in the tree.

Curiosity killed the cat but in this case Nathan Alfaro was lucky he didn't get killed when he got stuck in a tree at Woodward Park.

"I was pretty high," adds Alfaro, "I thought I wasn't going to get down."

The Fresno City College student was taking pictures for a class. He says he kept climbing and all of sudden he was thirty feet high. Firefighters came to the rescue and got Alfaro out of the tree.

"I've got to say that photographers in trees, I've never been on that one before, so that's pretty rare," says Koby Johns with the Fresno Fire Department.

A rescue team that specializes in high angle rescues helped the college student out of his predicament. Firefighters say Alfaro probably won't be charged for the rescue.

"Should he have been up in the tree? Probably not, but he got himself in a situation that he couldn't get out of," adds Johns, "That's what our tax dollars pay for, people to come and get you out of those situations."

Now that Alfaro is back on the ground, he says he learned a valuable lesson while working on his class project.

"Don't climb trees real high," says Alfaro.

Alfaro was stuck in the tree for an hour and twenty minutes. He didn't call for help himself. Instead, he called a friend, and the friend called park management, and the manager called 911.
