Standoff With Police Ends With Two In Custody

EXETER, Calif. (KMPH) -

An Exeter neighborhood is back to normal after a SWAT standoff Wednesday.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in the area of Kaweah Avenue and Sequoia Drive, behind El Taco Man restaurant in Exeter.

Exeter police say the standoff began when a man tried to shoot his mother with a crossbow during an argument.

Luckily, the man missed but police say he refused to come out of his house and held his girlfriend and 3 children hostage inside.

Four hours later, police convinced the man to come out and everyone else got out safely.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown until the situation was cleared.

Later it was learned that, Sarah Chavez, the girlfriend who was supposedly held hostage, was arrested too and booked into the Tulare County Jail.

The case is still under investigation.
