LOS ANGELES (AP) - A convicted killer has pleaded not guilty to strangling his prison pen pal, a retired Hollywood High School English teacher.
City News Service says 44-year-old Scott Kratlian entered the murder plea on Monday.
Prosecutors claim he killed 82-year-old Harry Major, who was found dead on Feb. 12 in his Hollywood apartment. Police say he'd been beaten and his credit cards were missing.
Major taught at Hollywood High for nearly 30 years.
Prosecutors say Kratlian was serving time in New York for a 1993 manslaughter conviction when Major became his pen pal.
Kratlian was released late last year.
He could face 56 years to life in prison if convicted.
