More Military Families Out of Food and Work

A new report finds more military families are using food stamps to buy their groceries.

The new numbers come from a Military Officers Association survey.

It found nearly $104 million worth of food stamps were used at military grocery stores last year.

The survey also found the number of families receiving assistance has grown steadily since the beginning of the recession.

One reason for this increase is a 30% unemployment rate among active–duty military spouses.

According to the Military Officers Association, spouses who relocate every few years have a harder time finding work outside of the military.
