FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made his way to Fresno prior to President Obama's visit on Friday.

He said the U.S. Department of Agriculture will provide assistance to help farmers, ranchers and residents here in the Valley affected by the severe drought.

The USDA has declared 54 counties in California as primary natural disaster areas due to drought.

The declaration means additional resources will be available, including $100 million in livestock disaster assistance.
