Posted: Updated:
PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KMPH) -

Porterville police arrested four people Friday morning after drugs, guns and stolen property were found in two neighboring houses.

The Porterville Police Narcotics Unit served search warrants at the two homes on the 100 block of West Orange Avenue at 6 a.m. Officers say they found 81 pounds of marijuana, meth, packaging materials associated with the sale of drugs and 7 guns inside the homes.

While officers were attempting to enter the first house, they say one of the suspects, Jorge Garcia Ruiz, 39, fired two shots at them from the second house. No officers were hurt, and police took Ruiz into custody as he attempted to flee.

Ruiz was booked for attempted murder of a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and other drug-related charges.

Three other people, Lupe Garcia, 38, Jorge Garcia Jr., 19, and Salvador Jimenez Torrez, 53, were arrested. Police say charges against the group include possession of meth and marijuana for sale, sales of narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school, being under the influence of a controlled substance and child endangerment.

Police say three children under the age of 14 were living in one of the houses.
