Meditation and Yoga- The New PE Class

Today's physical education classes are a far cry from the dodgeball and basketball of late.

Across the nation – gym teachers are now turning to the latest fitness trends to tackle the battle of the childhood obesity.

The emphasis now is not just on getting kids active: but setting them up to love, and stay in love with fitness their entire life.

Instead of focusing on team sports – PE teachers are now turning to more individualized sports. They're focusing on things that students can continue outside of school, on their own like yoga, golf, spinning class, meditation and even rock climbing

Many schools are also turning to social media and new technology, like fitness trackers and pedometers to help kids make fitness a lifestyle.

National statistics show this is sorely needed.

Only 25 – percent of school children meet the national fitness recommendations
