Three People Killed in Fresno Co. Crash, Hit by Suspected Drunk Driver

Posted: Updated:

The Fresno County Coroners office has identified the three women killed in a car accident near Belmont and McCall Saturday night.

Jennie Monreal, 73, Josephine Contreras, 72, and Delores Rodriguez, 70, were killed when a drunk driver slammed into the car they were in, CHP officers say.

The driver of the car the women were in survived and is in the hospital.

CHP officers have identified the driver of the minivan they say caused last night's fatal crash as 56-year-old Tranquilino Figueroa.

Figueroa was arrested at the scene near Belmont and McCall, and is facing felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.

CHP officers have also identified the driver of the Toyota Yaris as Elizabeth Rodriguez, 67, of Del Rey. Rodriguez was the only survivor of the four occupants in the Yaris. The other three women, all identified as being in their 70s, died at the scene.

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a crash Saturday night that killed three people—and officers believe it was caused by a drunk driver.

The initial crash happened just after 6 pm, near McCall and Belmont.

Officers say the driver of a Chevy Minivan hit one car, then swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a Toyota Yaris, head-on, killing the three people.

The driver of the Yaris survived and is in the hospital in critical condition.

Officers say the accused drunk driver survived, and was also taken to the hospital. He is expected to recover.
