Arrest Made in Shooting at Football Watch Party

Posted:

Fresno County Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a man who they say, shot two people at a family party to watch the NFC Championship Football Game.

It happened just after 7:00 p.m., on the 200 block of Caesar, just north of Tulare Avenue in Southeast Fresno.

People at the home had just finished watching the game when, they say, an argument broke out.

At one point, Deputies say 39-year-old Amado Vargas threatened partygoers with a knife.

Someone was able to take the knife from him, but deputies say he then got ahold of a gun and fired several rounds.

The two victims, ages 63 and 45, were each hit in a leg.

They were conscious and were talking with deputies.

They are expected to survive.

Vargas left the scene with some of his family members, but deputies say he was later found at a hospital, where he was being treated for a stab wound.

It's not clear where he was stabbed.

He is expected to be okay, and will face charges for assault with a deadly weapon.
