Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

UPDATE:

On Thursday, January 16, 2013, two Fresno officers riding together in a patrol car, members of the Violent Impact Team, were patrolling the neighborhood in the 400 block of North Fresno Street.

Officers say they saw a wanted man, 31-year-old Byron Francisco Acosta, in the backyard of a home.

Acosta is wanted on a felony warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

The officers pulled their patrol car around to the front of the residence and as they were parking, two other men came out of the home.

As officers were getting out of their car, one of the men fired several shots, hitting the patrol car.

One man dropped to the ground and the gunman fled on foot.

A total of 8 people were detained while officers conducted interviews to gather leads on the identity of the shooter.

Byron Acosta was located in the neighborhood shortly after the shooting and was arrested on the felony warrant.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
