FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fresno police say a man crashed into a power pole, leaving his 16-year-old girlfriend pinned inside with a broken hip.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night near Cedar and Shepherd.

Police say the car was stolen and 21-year-old Jaime Gomez tried to play it off that he was just a witness to the crash.

Gomez told police that's when he realized the girl inside was his girlfriend.

Police noticed broken glass on the man's clothes and determined he was the driver.

Gomez was arrested for auto theft and probation violation.

The 16-year-old girl was transported to the hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
