Wild Weather - Dry Central Valley, Freezing Mid-West

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

The majority of the U.S. is dealing with bitter, cold weather. However, it's nice and warm in other parts of the country. In fact, the U.S. isn't the only place where there's wild weather.

In Fresno fruit trees are staring to bud. A sign of spring, but it's only January. If you travel to other parts of the country it's a winter like no other. In Minneapolis and Chicago it was so cold Monday that the day time high's were just as cold as the high in the South Pole.

The southern part of the U.S. is usually warm. However, with Nashville's day time high coming in at 18–degrees and Birmingham, Alabama at 23–degrees it's colder than it is in Anchorage, Alaska.

The weather is just as wacky in Florida. Tuesday in Miami it's going to be around 70–degrees, but in Jacksonville it is going to be a chilly 37–degrees.

We aren't the only ones dealing with weird weather. There are huge waves off the coasts of Spain, Portugal and Great Britain. It is also very windy in Western Europe.

Cold isn't the only concern, south of the equator Australia is having a very hot summer. In some parts of the country it's 122–degrees. In fact, 2013 was the hottest year on record in Australia and the country is also seeing major storms.

KMPH Fox 26 meteorologist Kevan Ramer says all of this wacky weather is connected. He says when it's super cold in some parts of the world; it makes it really hot in other places.
