A new study shows even though diet soda has no calories — experts say it won't help you lose weight.
Researchers at the University of Texas found that over a decade, diet soda drinkers had a 70 percent greater increase to their waistlines compared with non–drinkers.
Experts say it's because your body processes artificial sweeteners just like sugar, causing you to still gain weight.
Part of it might also be psychological. You might justify eating less–healthy foods because you had a "diet" drink.
Other studies found there is also a greater risk for type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, and for women - osteoporosis.
And here's something else: a recent study linked drinking soda (diet and regular) to a higher risk of depression!
