VISALIA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A group of volunteers helped ease the pain of a Visalia mother.

Andrea Villegas buried her 14-year-old son, Damien Gulley, on Saturday after he was found dead.

To help battle the family's financial burdens, Jeremy Veronda, and a group of Visalia volunteers, organized a weekend long charity car wash.

"It's been really, really busy so it's definitely going to benefit the family," said Veronda during the car wash.

The autistic boy was first reported missing on November 18th.

The following Thursday, Police found the boy's body in the Sequoia National Park.

The next day, Police arrested and charged Gulley's step-father, 32-year-old Miguel Villegas Pacheco, for his murder.

Pacheco is currently being held in Tulare County jail without bail.

"It's sad; somebody gets his life taken before he actually had a chance to live one. It's upsetting," said Veronda.

Veronda, along with other volunteers, spent the weekend scrubbing cars clean.

They raised nearly $900.

Veronda's gracious efforts were felt all across the community.

"We have had his fifth grade teacher come through yesterday. Mostly everyone that has come through has been very sympathetic, they feel for the family," said Veronda.

The money raised will go to the boy's mother, and his two younger siblings.
