DELANO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A police chase in the city of Delano ends with a burglary suspect crashing his car and then shooting at police.

Officers say the crash and shootout occurred at the intersection of Browning Road and 9th. They were pursuing the man in a pickup truck when he ran a red light at that intersection, crashed into another vehicle and then into a fence.

Police say Alejandro Marquez Gonzalez, 26, then got out of the wrecked truck and started shooting. Officers returned fire hitting Gonzalez twice in the chest.

Officers say Gonzalez was taken to Kern County hospital for treatment.

No officers were hurt in the incident. The driver of the car Gonzalez crashed into was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
