'Prolific' Thief Now at Fresno County Jail

Posted: Updated:

Fresno Police have nabbed a man they call one of the city's most prolific thieves.

Officers say they spotted 26-year-old Felipe Medina, 28-year-old Ulises Avila and 19-year-old Felipe Garcia Tuesday morning in the area of Church and Peach, after they received several reports of car break-ins.

During one of the break-ins, the witness had seen a silver van leaving the area.

Officers later spotted a similar van in the area of the break-ins, and saw it pull up to a parked car.

They saw a man get out of the van and walk up to the car, to tamper with the door lock.

Once the man saw officers, he ran into the van and it took off at a high rate of speed.

Officers caught up with the van and pulled it over.

The three men were inside.

Officers recovered stolen items, and they say the men admitted to the break-ins.

All three men have extensive criminal histories including property crimes and drug violations.

They were booked into the Fresno County jail.

Medina was assigned to one of the five beds leased by the city of Fresno, set aside for the city's most notorious thieves.
