Proposed Indian Casino In Madera County Will Be On 2014 Ballot

MADERA, Calif. (KMPH) -

You get to decide if an Indian gaming casino will be built along Highway 99 in Madera County.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen says there are enough certified signatures to put the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians' Gambling Compact on the November 2014 ballot.

Opponents take issue with the casino being more than 35 miles away from the tribe's reservation.

If it passes, it will be built at Highway 99 near Avenue 18 in Madera.

Lawmakers, Governor Jerry Brown and the federal government all approve the project.

Supporters say the casino will bring jobs and economic development to a needy part of the state.
