Free Emissions Testing At The Fresno Fairgrounds

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Worried your car won't pass a smog test—but can't afford the necessary repairs?  Maybe this can help!

On Saturday, November 2nd, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and Valley Clean Air Now will host a Tune In & Tune Up car clean-up event.

This will be at the Fresno County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tune In & Tune Up is a program that helps repair older, out-of-tune vehicles that impact the air quality throughout the Central Valley.

On Saturday, drivers who have had their cars for at least six months can receive a free vehicle emissions test.

Drivers whose cars do not pass an emissions test, but can be repaired, will receive a voucher for up to $500 in repairs at a participating STAR-certified smog check station.

Drivers must own the vehicle for at least six months.

There will also be a car-care clinic and health and safety fair at Saturday's event.

Vouchers will be given until organizers run out.

"This event is a great resource for the community and helps eliminate mobile source pollutants generated by older, 'out of tune' cars in the San Joaquin Valley," said Samir Sheikh, director of the Valley Air District's Strategies and Incentives department.

"The Valley Air District is pleased to be partnering with Valley CAN to help improve air quality for Valley residents."

In the past ten years, more than 4,000 cars have been repaired to state smog standards.

For event information, call 1-800-806-2004.

Event subject to close early due to maximum vehicle capacity. First come, first serve.
