Scarecrows Decked Out In Exeter Police Department Gear

Bank robbers hanging from a building may be an unusual sight anywhere else.

In Exeter right now, it's quite normal. Almost 25 businesses are competing in the annual scarecrow competition.

The local police department is honoring its past while showing off some holiday spirit.

Officers at the station didn't leave out any details, outfitting their scarecrows with real cop gear that's seen real action.

"That's Chief Bush's back when he was a Sgt. Officer Guinn. In fact, a uniform from when I was a Sgt., is up there also," said Celis Rabena with the Exeter Police Department.

Pulled together with their best threads and completed with holiday spirit and the helping hands of many volunteers.

"I think the finished product turned out great, we've got a lot of traffic out here, people stopping and taking photographs," notes Scott McElroy.

The station is going to be a tough act to beat, competing against 25 other Exeter businesses, all vying for best in show.

"You know it's a great thing to be part of the community and actually do something with the community to compete along with them and do something fun with them."

This year  is the 100th anniversary for the holiday tradition.
