Boys & Girls Club Director Arrest: Torres, Citizens On Patrol Volunteer

FIREBAUGH, Calif. (KMPH) -

Parents say they are forced to talk to their children about sex, after the arrest of the Executive Director at the Firebaugh Boys and Girls Club.

A law enforcement task force arrested 25-year-old Juan Torres on federal charges.

Police say he is accused of texting kids trying to lure them to have sex with him.

Parents who knew Torres by his nickname "Happy" say they can't believe it.

Parent Jackie Smith says, "Its like can I let my daughter go play, is it going to happen you never know. When I found out this morning as soon as my kids came home that was the first thing I asked them."

Thursday afternoon, kids were forced to play outside the club, because it was closed.

Parents say Torres would often hold events at the club, including sleep over's.

Parent Antonia Cortez says, "It's very bad, my kids loved to play with Happy and the other people at the club. I'm sad that it's now closed."

The investigation began last week when a 13-year-old boy came forward reporting the unwanted messages from Torres via social media.

Computers and other items were seized from Torres's home, which he shares with his mother.

As detectives continue with their investigation, a KMPH News investigation uncovers ever since all the media attention about Torres, more victims have come forward.

The investigation also uncovered prior to Torres working as the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club, he was a volunteer with the Madera County Sheriff's Department Citizens on Patrol Program.

Madera County Sheriff's Spokeswoman Erica Stuart confirms, "Torres went through the academy and graduated in 2006. However, he never had any contact with children. He worked traffic occasionally and was often a 'no show'. As soon we were aware of the investigation, he was removed."

Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim or anyone with information about this investigation to call Sergeant Jeff Kertson at (559) 600-8144.
