Thousands Of Marijuana Plants Destroyed In Madera

Posted:

The Madera County Narcotic Enforcement Team "MADNET" cleared a marijuana grow near Highway 99 with nearly 7,400 plants.

Twenty agents spent 18 hours on Thursday clearing the pot from a field the size of 17 football fields.

The plants were growing behind a wall of corn to hide the plants from public view.

Madera County Sheriff John Anderson took part in the operation and says agents continue to tackle the growing number of illegal marijuana gardens operating throughout Madera County under the auspices of Prop 215. "The Compassionate Use Act was not intended for a growing segment of society that is basically using Prop 215 for financial gain," said Anderson.

MADNET's marijuana eradication season continues for at least another month, and so far agents have destroyed nearly 150,000 plants.
