Vandals Spray Paint 'USMC Sucks' On Retired Marines' Car

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A retired U.S. Marine is still trying to find out why his car was targeted by vandals.

Besides breaking the windows and side mirrors, vandals cut the Mercedes soft-top and spray painted a giant 'X' on the seats.

If that does not get your blood boiling, the vandals' then spray painted 'marines suck' on the back, and 'U-S-M-C sucks' on the side and on the hood of the car.

Retired Marine, Bart Gibson, who works as a licensed clinical social worker says when he saw his car it hurt.

Gibson says, "I was just baffled by, when I walked out there and saw I almost broke down and started crying. It was such a surprise to me."

Gibson says he's racked his brain trying to determine who or why anyone would do such a thing. He says the only thing that identifies him as being a Marine is his license plate holder. Ironically, he put on it on the same day the vandalism took place.

Gibson says, "I take great offense at what they wrote, because I don't view it as directed just at me. But I view it as directed towards my brother and sisters in arms."

Fresno Police hope anyone with information about the crime will come forward. You can report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.

You could earn yourself a reward up to $1,000.

Gibson says as a counselor, in the past he has had people angry with him after he's told clients to move on from abusive relationships.

But that's been more than 10 year ago.

Gibson did make a police report and contacted his insurance company.

He believes the damage could be as much as $5,000 or more.
