Donations for Heart Surgery Overflow; Man Wants to Pay It Forward

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Several weeks ago, we brought you the story of a Fresno man who was scared his heart would stop beating, because he needed a new pacemaker, and didn't have the money or insurance to pay for it.

People in our community opened their hearts and wallets to help Dion King, donating nearly $24,000.

And the giving doesn't end there.

Dion wants to use some of that money, to help someone else like him.

"I'm excited to get the bill, because there has to be a large amount of money left over, there just has to be," said Dion King.

That's because the hospital, his cardiologist, and the manufacturer of his new pacemaker, didn't charge him a dime.

So, after all the other medical expenses are paid, he anticipates there will thousands of dollars left over.

The money was collected through an online account and a 2-day car wash.

"I was crying, there was a couple of other people crying, it was just unbelievable, we never would've thought we'd come up with a little over $10,000 in a 2-day car wash," said Dion.

He wants to keep the giving, going.

"I want to find somebody who was in the same situation as me, that's what the money was given, that's what it should stay with.

Someone who's working and needs to get a little help, they just fell through the cracks just like I did," said Dion.

He hopes to help even a couple people who have found themselves in dire situations, but don't qualify for any kind of government help.

If you or someone you know is going through a situation similar to what Dion went through, you can e-mail your story to Dion at this email address:
