General Grant Tree in Kings Canyon National Park In Running For 8th Wonder

Voters are being asked to decide the next wonder of the world.

And the General Grant Giant Sequoia Tree in Kings Canyon National Park is in the running to be added to the 7 Wonders of the World list thanks to a travel website.

VirtualTourist.com is asking voters to decide the next"wonder" of the world out of a list of more than 300 candidates.

Other candidates include: the island of Bora Bora, Brussels Grand Palace, Badlands National Park and the Golden Gate Bridge.

"Valley residents may take these giant trees for granted, since they are virtually in our backyard, but the Giant Sequoia trees are the world's largest living things and are truly unique in the earth," said Sanger Mayor Joshua Mitchell in a news release.

Voting ends Sept. 30.

Austin Shedd,13, was found around 9:30 p.m. by a trail crew.He had been reported missing around 2:00 a.m. Monday.He separated from his hiking group Sunday, near the area known as Arrow Peak.
