FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fresno County authorities announced on Thursday that a man suspected of placing three pipe bombs that exploded in Fresno mailboxes has been arrested.

Cody Frederick Bewarder, 27, was arrested Wednesday night during a traffic stop a short distance away from 1500 block of E. Pico Avenue where a resident discovered that his mailbox had been blown up.

On Thursday, a search warrant was served at Bewarder's home  in the 2000 block of E. Austin Way. Detectives discovered bomb-making materials and a semi-automatic handgun.

Bewarder was identified as a suspect in two similar incidents over a three-month period, one in Fresno and the other in Fresno County.

The first incident happened on June 28 in the 500 block of W San Jose Avenue.

Bewarder was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of possessing an explosive device in a public place, use of an explosive device, possession of bomb making materials and being armed in the commission of a felony.

Detectives say he may be responsible for several more similar type incidents.
