Scientists who examined a lion that killed a 26-year-old woman earlier this year say the lion was healthy when it died of gun shot wounds from a Fresno County deputy.

The necropsy on the 4-year-old African lion -- named Cous Cous -- was completed this week in Tulare by biologists with the California Animal Health And Food Safety Laboratory System.

Two gallons of human intestines and skin were present in the lion's stomach, the fish and game department said.

A total of six bullets were recovered from the lion.

Numerous blood clots were observed on the left side of the lion from several shotgun blasts, officials said.

The lion was shot by deputies after it mauled 24-year-old Dianna Hanson at Project Survival Cat Haven in Dunlap in March.

Hanson, of Lynnwood, Wash., had been working as an intern at the large cat sanctuary. An autopsy revealed that she died quickly and did not suffer from wounds inflicted on her in the attack.
