Day 3: Protesting The George Zimmerman Verdict

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Protests over George Zimmerman acquittal are still going on and some of them are not peaceful.

Monday was the third day of protests after a Florida jury decided that Zimmerman acted in self defense in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

A protest started in Los Angeles after dozens of people gathered for a prayer rally in a park.

Some people ran out onto Crenshaw Boulevard, stopping traffic and causing cars to swerve. Some of the protestors started banging on cars and windows of local businesses. A few also tried to pull a fence down.

Police were at the scene and have arrested some people involved.

Dozens of protesters also poured onto a freeway in Oakland. Protestors shut down lanes on the I–880. People were running around the freeway and stopping cars. Police cleared the freeway and arrested people who were not cooperating.

Around the same time, hundreds of people gathered to protest in downtown Oakland. They were rallying through streets, carrying signs and chanting. The protestors say they are showing their support for Trayvon Martin. That protest remained peaceful.

One of the six jurors in the case spoke for the first time on Monday.

The unidentified woman detailed what went on during the trial and during deliberations. She said that of the six jurors, some of them wanted to convict Zimmerman of something. She said it was a very emotional time, with a lot of crying. She said after going through the evidence and the law over and over again, they finally came to their not guilty verdict.

"We didn't' just go in there and say 'we're gonna come here and just do guilty, not guilty.' We thought about it for hours and cried over it afterwards.  I don't think any of us could ever do anything like that again," says Juror B37.

The juror says that she feels that both Zimmerman and Martin were in the wrong place at the wrong time. She also says that the shooting could have been avoided if both would have just walked away.
