Child Porn Busts: Nine Fresno-Area People Arrested

Posted:

Hundreds of accused child predators including several from the Central Valley were arrested, following a five-week nationwide investigation by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement officials.

The operation, called iGuardian, ended with nine Fresno-area men being taken to jail.

Those formally charged included Mathew Shawn Broadway, of Clovis, who was indicted by a federal grand jury June 27 for receiving and distributing child pornography.

Fresno HSI ranked second only to Tampa, Fla., for the most arrests by an individual HSI office under Operation iGuardian

Law enforcement officials say they focused on identifying and rescuing victims of online sexual exploitation.

"Protecting our youth in the digital age requires all of us to be on the lookout for child predators abusing and extorting victims online," said ICE Director John Morton in a news release. "Children and parents need to understand that not everyone online is who they say they are. Child abusers prowl social media looking for opportunities to force young people into sexual exploitation through guile, deceit, and extortion. We want children to know that it's wrong for any adult to solicit or pressure them for sex and that the law is on their side."

Officials say some of the suspects traded and produced online child pornography.

Other suspects are facing various charges that include  intent to have sex with a minor, rape and molestation.

Of the 255 total arrests, just four were women.
