Stealing From Charity: Lemoore Police Say Man Steals Charity Box

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Who steals from charity? Lemoore Police say one man did.

Police are looking for a man they say walked into a Lemoore 7–Eleven, picked up the charity box full of change and walked out.

"That's ruthless. It's bad," said Thomas Naranjo, a customer at the 7-Eleven.

Lemoore Police say the man walked into the 7–Eleven with a large, military-style knife. Police say he didn't ask the clerk for money, he just took the charity box and left.

People, like Adrian Ramirez, who donate to charity boxes are upset by the crime.

"I think it's really horrible," Ramirez said. "I mean, it's there for a good thing -- for charity, obviously. And, it just takes a bad person to do something really horrible like that."

Glenda Curbow agreed, saying: "They need to put those people in jail. I don't like that, I feel sorry for those kids who need help."

KMPH FOX 26 spoke with some convenience store owners who didn't want to go on camera. They say they don't allow charity boxes in their stores, because they have too many people that walk in, pick the boxes up and walk away.

Lemoore Police are asking anyone with information about the man who swiped the charity box to call them at 559–924–9574.
