A search is under way for a missing hiker in the Sierra National Forest.

Nick Brehm, 21, of Auberry, was reported missing on Tuesday after he separated from his two brothers in the Redinger Lake area, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said that Brehm decided to go hiking on his own around 6:30 p.m. When he failed to return, that's when his brothers reported him missing, the Sheriff's Office said.

Brehm was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and black shorts. He was carrying a black backpack and a four-person tent. And officials said that he has water, but no food.

Search and rescue crews are looking for Brehm in rough, steep terrain that is approximately 1-square mile, ranging in elevation from 1,500-2,500 feet.

Crews suspended the search around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The search resumed at 6 a.m.
