Missing 10-Year Old Found Safe; Man He Was Found With Jailed

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Update: Police say they found Michael Letendre with 36–year-old Levon McDaniel.

Both Michael and McDaniel were found walking near a parking lot on Fresno Street and Ashlan Avenue by an officer looking for the boy.

Police say they received a tip from one of Michael's friends that the 10-year old was with McDaniel. After questioning McDaniel's parents, police began searching for a red minivan.

After a Fresno motorcycle officer spotted Michael and McDaniel, the man was arrested and Michael taken to the hospital.

Both have been interviewed, but police say they have conflicting stories.

Police aren't sure if Michael went with McDaniel willingly. What they do know, is Michael and McDaniel spent the night in a northeast Fresno apartment. Police are still trying to figure out if Michael was sexually abused.

Police say they don't think Michael's parents have anything to do with his disappearance. The 10-year old's parents are grateful that police helped their son.

"I'm really glad that they are helping and doing something," says Christian Letendre, "If it wasn't for them I probably would of lost my mind by now."

Police say Michael is in good physical shape, but he is in custody of Child Protective Services. Police add they are trying to find out if something going on at home is why the 10–year old might have left with McDaniel.

McDaniel is charged with felony child concealment. Police say as the investigation continues, McDaniel could be charged with more.

Original: Fresno police are searching for a 10-year-old boy who has been missing since Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Michael Letendre was last seen around 12:45 p.m. in front of his house in the 900 block of E. Lansing Way.

Michael told his parents that he was going down the street to a friend's home, police said. When the 10-year-old failed to return home by 6:30 p.m., he parents called police.

He was last seen wearing a white Transformers T-shirt, brown pants and black and yellow shoes.

Anyone who may have seen Michael or may have information is asked to call the Fresno Police Department.
