Transgender Swapping 'Bathroom Bill' Heads To Senate

Posted: Updated:
CLOVIS, Calif. (KMPH) -

California school may soon be required to allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their choosing and that is not all.

Assembly Bill 1266, sponsored by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) would require all schools in the state to allow transgender students to use the bathroom and locker room of their choosing, as well as participate on same-sex sports teams, regardless of the gender they were born with.

The bill, which passed the state assembly, last month, is expected to pass in the Democratic state senate and be signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.

Tiffany Yeager says, "Whether they are being dressed a certain way, I believe the hormones are still there. I don't want my daughter in the same locker room with a boy."

Brenda Esswein says, "I agree with the bill, I think a child knows exactly what they're inside and I think they should be treated, and how they feel inside."

Those against the bill say if passed into law, it could be abused by students seeking easy access to the opposite sex.

We will continue to follow the bills progress.
