A man visiting Kings Canyon National Park was killed when fell over a waterfall on Thursday, park officials said.

David Breuer, 47, of Mishawaka, Ind. was with his family at Mist Falls when he left the trail to approach the top of the fall. He then slipped and fell into the cascade, park officials said.

Attempts to resuscitate Breuer were unsuccessful, park officials said.

He was transported by helicopter out of the park and then transferred to the Fresno County Coroner's Office.

A week earlier, a 60-year-old Bakersfield man died of an apparent heart attack while hiking a trail in Mineral King Valley.

Park officials said Joe Lopez was approaching an elevation of 10,000 feet on the Eagle Lake Trail when he collapsed suddenly.

He was transported by helicopter to the Tulare County Coroner after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, park officials said.
