Backburn operations were contributing to smoky conditions in Midpines, Lushmeadows and Mariposa on Thursday morning.

Evacuations have been cancelled for most residences excluding those along Buckingham Mountain Road and Carter Road.

As of Thursday morning, traffic restrictions remained in place for Triangle and Darrrah roads and the Jerseydale-Mariposa Pines areas. Those zones were open only to residents who present ID to officers.

"On the southwest side of the fire, the fire continues to back dowslope toward the constructed dozer lines burning pockets of green fuel between the fire line and the fire," the fire information office said. "This is favorable for containment goals."

With conditions tinder-dry and the calendar not yet in the summer season, officials urged the public to remain extremely cautious about sparks and fire.
