Hungry Children: Report Says More In LA County Than Any Other US County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

There are more hungry children in Los Angeles County than in any other American county.  That's according to a new report from "FeedingAmerica.org".  The report says 26.6% of all children living in LA County are in a household with what the report calls "Food Insecure Households".

The report also cited several other California Counties for having among the country's highest child hunger rates.  Along with Los Angeles County, Riverside County, the San Diego metro area, San Bernardino County, and Orange County were listed as among the top ten worst metro areas for child hunger in the United States.  Santa Clara County was also in the 30-worst areas.

According to the report, which was compiled from data from 2010, the most recent year for which data are now available, California had 2,453,770 children living in homes with not enough food to keep them healthy.  The report says that means about 17% of all state households are in this predicament.
